Apocalyptica wins at Metal Hammer Awards

What a great night it was at Metal Hammer’s ‘Golden Gods Awards’ in London, England!
Fantastic bands - Disturbed, In Flames, Children Of Bodom and Testament - all performing live!
We meet some long time friends and having a blast at the after show party!
On top we are very proud to finally win ‘best breakthrough artist’ award at the award show.
OK - we’re touring since 12 years and did 6 albums - but the time has come to finally break through.
MANY MANY thanks to all of you - you were the ones who voted for this.

Here is Perttu’s response:

Apocalyptica is victorious! ;)

yes…
we came,saw…and BROKE THROUGH!!!
hehe…let’s say, finally, after 12 years of existence and insanely hard work..it’s funny, and even strange that we get such an award as a “breakthrough artist” in Metal Hammer awards…
BUT,ofcourse it warms our hearts…especially because it is happening in UK(which in fact is kind of a new market for us)
and BECAUSE the award has been voted by the audience and in between such a great other nominees!
so…we’ll enjoy this moment very lots because it’s anyhow the first time we truly WIN anything outside Finland..and hehe…yes.
we are also so boring fellas that whenever there is a slightest reason to open a bottle of champaigne and lit a fine cigar.we need to use those situations.
(hmm…maybe once in every second year) :p

So…Thanks for EVERYBODY involved,AND if this means that Apo truly did anything-broke through or broke out…
it is YOU who deserve the price, without you as the partners in crime-we would be nothing else than bunch of idiots playing some crap with some strange instruments.
(hmm…that describes our band pretty well actually..)
but..
it’s nice to see and notice that now we are bunch of idiots who are playing some crap with some strange instruments AND there are some strange people who enjoy it in some perverted way!!! YEAH!

;P

see you soon our beloved fans and followers!
let us all enjoy the summer and the festivals…

Apocalyptica cancels appearance at M’era Luna

Published by Carrie under News

Thats right, it looks like Apocalyptica have cancelled their appearance at M’era Luna festival this year. Since they obviously won’t be doing a meet and greet either, they have launched a contest to win 2 tickets to the Große Freiheit festival (July 2, Hamburg), including meet and greet, instead. Just go here and answer the question to be entered to win.

Speaking of Apocalyptica

Published by Megan under News

I want to take a moment and point out if you didn’t already know… Apocalyptica is playing an outdoor radio station festival, KFMA Radio Day, in AZ on the 16th of May. Why this is of note is that the headliners are Metallica! How often do Apocalyptica and Metallica share the stage? Given that Metallica was very supportive of Apocalyptica in the beginning of their career, I can’t imagine them not coming out and joining Apocalyptica for a song or two. Hey it’s my fantasy, let me have it.

Either way, even though my wish to see Apocalyptica again one more time this tour has been fulfilled with the addition of the Ventura, CA date, I’m still toying with the idea of taking the day off work and trekking out there for this.

Tickets are still available.

KFMA DAY 2008 Concert at the Pima County Fairgrounds, Tucson, Arizona.
Featuring Metallica, Flobots, Apocalyptica, & Scars On Broadway.
$47.50 + 7.25 s/ch.
All seats are general admission.
Rain or Shine.
Gates at 3:00pm and Music 4:00pm

That adds up. For two tickets, you’re looking at $112.50. Between that and the high cost of gas, I may sit it out anyways. If you go, let us know what happened!

New US Date for Apocalyptica

Published by Megan under News

Wishes really do come true!

Seeing Apocalyptica in San Diego & Hollywood left me with a burning desire to figure out a way to catch another gig before this US tour ends.

I woke up this morning to the wonderful news that Apocalyptica has been booked into the Majestic in Ventura, CA which is only an hour’s drive away. I should know because I used to live there!

Tickets will go online for sale from Ticketmaster on Friday (25th) at 10am. You can also call and order them over the phone at (805) 653-0721. $20 cash or $23 by credit card.

Show is General Admission so first come first served for positions in front of the stage. I asked because sometimes Majestic has “reserved” seating.

The camera policy is not yet determined because it is up to the band & band mgmt. Given that they did not search us in San Diego at the House of Blues (notoriously anti-camera), I think it’s a fair guess to say that Cameras will be allowed. The Roxy operates under the same policy as Majestic and they didn’t say No Cameras there either.

See you there!

UPDATE: Forgot showtimes! Doors at 7pm. DJ will play while we wait for Apo to take the stage at 8pm. They are playing about a 90 minute concert including encores (based on SD & Roxy shows). Not too bad for those who have school or work early the next day.

UPDATE #2: It’s been pointed out that it would be helpful to know what day! Answer: May 18th, Sunday.

Apocalyptica…wee little article.

My house needs to be cleaned, I need to balance my checkbook and I have a to-do list as long as my arm.

So this is why I am reading up on Finnish bands! Here is a short and sweet piece talking to Perttu. Enjoy!

Update: Apocalyptica HotTopic concert

Published by Megan under News

It’s still another half hour to the concert but I just noticed that you can see them underneath the announcement! I’m fairly certain that what I am seeing is the guys getting set up for the concert and doing the sound check. Perttu just got up and walked offstage and looks like Paavo and Eicca are still checking out their instruments.

Fun! I wonder if they know that they’re being broadcast already even if hidden behind a semi transparent ad thing.

EDIT 1:40pm: They just turned on the sound. Can hear them talking now. Someone’s singing the lines from Life Burns! Can’t make out who though.
1:42pm the video and audio just went away, it’s now only the announcement graphic that I posted in the reminder earlier today.
EDIT: 1:56pm It’s starting… announcement is gone and we can see the empty stage now. Hope you’re all watching this too! BTW this is PC only, sorry for those on a Mac
Edit: 2:02pm They’re playing Bittersweet now. I didn’t catch if they said who the fourth cellist is but as far as I know there’s still only officially 3 in the band. Perttu has an interesting get up on. He’s wearing a stovepipe top hat, long black coat and has dyed his hair all black. Paavo has a really nice smile, he looked up and was grinning at the other guys at one point.
Unfortunately the mike is so low that I can’t make out what Eicca’s been saying in between the songs.
I realize now that I’ve never heard Bittersweet done without the vocals from Ville & Lauri, it’s really nice!
2:07pm Darn it, I got distracted and missed Eicca introducing the guy who’s singing the next song, I’m Not Jesus. I don’t know what Corey Taylor looks like so don’t know if this guy is him. He is the one who was singing Life Burns in the sound check earlier. But I did see Mikko getting on stage. He reminds me of a drummer friend who can never stop grinning when he’s playing because he’s just happy to be performing.
That’s it? Only three songs? Apparently so.
Ok here for those who missed this: “Missed the show? No worries. We’ll be showin’ it again on Tuesday April 15th at 6pm PDT.”
The one thing I did make out from Eicca is that the first single from their new album will be out next week. (Hope I got that right!)
Final EDIT: Ah ok, they’re releasing Worlds Collide in the US next week. Worlds Collide was released last year in Europe but Zomba Label is doing a US release. I wish they’d sign The Rasmus as well since TR parted ways with their US label who failed to marshal a cohesive promotion campaign. Zomba’s doing very well by Apocalyptica. Looking up Apocalyptica on YouTube brought this ad in the advertising section:
