No Beer

Published by Megan under Miscellaneous

Girl,
You lived your life like a wasted bum
Your turn has come
For the beer run

Girl,
Who parties like the members of Kwan
Your destiny is porcelain

Don’t fall down those stairs
And break the wine
We have no mercy

Close your eyes too much jetlag
More beer later
From dawn til dawn

Given their fondness for beer… they probably sing something like this when they’re not on stage.

More on DRT

Published by Megan under News

DRT Entertainment is a privately held, New York-based independent record label founded in 2004 by accomplished music industry executives Derek Shulman, Ron Urban and Ted Green. In January 2006, Mr. Shulman became President and CEO of the label, with Mr. Green, CEO of Anchor Bay Entertainment and Mr. Urban remaining as DRT board members.
With an emphasis on Rock, DRT and its growing staff of young and seasoned music industry professionals provide an environment for artists to achieve commercial success while remaining true to their artistic goals. The label’s targeted sales and marketing strategy allows them to devote attention and resources to their both their developing and established artists in strategies that are flexible, creatively structured and immediately profitable. DRT’s artist roster includes Clutch (who in 2005 achieved the highest Billboard Top 200 debut of the group’s 10-year career), Powerman 5000, Blindside, Soil, Street Dogs, American Head Charge and Gwar, as well as developing acts Aphasia, Scotch Greens, Lynam and Artimus Pyledriver.

DRT recently signed a U.S. distribution deal with Universal Music Group’s Fontana Distribution. DRT is also distributed by Universal Music Group in Canada, as well as a number of leading independent distribution companies in the rest of the world including Pinnacle in the United Kingdom and JVC Records in Japan.

More information at the Source

Now it becomes more clear. The Rasmus are signed with Playground Music in Finland. Playground Music is owned by Universal Music. Universal Music was “the label” here in the US but they didn’t ever do anything with The Rasmus.

Here’s to hoping that DRT is willing to do something to get The Rasmus better known here in the US.

Pauli goes crazy on MySpace

Published by Megan under News

What a surprise to wake up to! And he wasn’t even done yet.

What got my attention was their new profile icon which led me to all the new pictures Pau uploaded. This one is my favorite.

The Rasmus in Mexico City

That’s an amazing shot. I want to go do that now. :)

I found four, count them, FOUR bulletins from The Rasmus’s account, three signed by Pauli who’s being adorably ditzy. Not unlike us at times. ;)

The Rasmus bulletin posted on MySpace, 7/4/06Pauli announces his new pictures on MySpacePauli apologizes for having deleted the older photos to make room.Pauli signs off for the day.

Kerrang 2006

Published by Megan under News

Ok kiddies,

Time to go nominate your favorite Finnish band for Kerrang Awards 2006!

K1 Best British Newcomer - Sponsored by MySpace.com
K2 Best International Newcomer
K3 Best Single
K4 Best Album - Sponsored by Virgin Megastores
K5 Best Live Band - Sponsored by Carling
K6 Best British Band - Sponsored by Roadrunner Records
K7 Best Band On The Planet

We, of course, nominated The Rasmus for the bolded ones above. I nominated “Shot” for best single and Hide From The Sun for best album.

For Best International Newcomer, consider The Winyls. I just don’t know that they’d count as a newcomer?

I’m open to suggestions for the British categories. Post them in the comments.

Rumor: No US Tour in Fall ‘06

Published by Megan under Miscellaneous

Posting this separately because as far as I’m aware, there is no official word on this yet.

I heard through the grapevine today that The Rasmus are planning to take a break after touring the summer festival circuit in Europe. Then they’ll go straight into the studio to work on Album #7.

This was dismaying because when I learned about their new US record label the other day, I thought for sure that the rumors about a US Fall ‘06 tour would pan out. We know of several US based bands who would be interested in a co-tour with The Rasmus. We know this because we were the little angels sitting on their shoulders whispering into their ears about this great touring idea.

So now we must keep our fingers crossed that when they’re done in the studio, they’ll come explore the rest of the North American continent to kick start their tour for Album #7.

Update: Turned out to be a red herring… they did come to tour the US on their first ever tour. And they even toured with the band we were hinting at, Kill Hannah!

US Label for The Rasmus

Published by Megan under News

A couple days ago, I got the great news that The Rasmus have a new US Label!

Part of why it is so hard to find their music or any record label support for them in the US  is because they were represented by the huge conglomerate known as Universal Music.

DRT Entertainment is the label that signed them. I’ve never heard of them before. I only recognize the band GWAR from their existing bands.

DRT is proud to announce our newest signing, Helsinki, Finland’s The Rasmus. We will finally be releasing their album Hide From The Sun with a ton of extras exclusive to the U.S. release. It will be in stores September 12th.

That’s some really great news! We’re excited!!

Now they just need to tour the US to support this CD release.

Back again

Published by Megan under News

It’s been a busy couple months and I have lots to report.

The most important thing is that there is now another writer for this site: Mrs. Vam.

She is no stranger to the music industry and is further along in her exploration of Finnish Rock and other things Suomi.

My goal for the next week is to try to get caught up on all the shenangians we’ve been up to.

We will also start posting News items about our favorite bands and anything that is related.
